HOW DOES POSTPARTUM CONTRACEPTION INITIATION IMPACT THE NUMBER OF RAPID REPEAT PREGNANCY IN WOMEN WITH SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS?

Initiation of contraception during the postpartum period can diminish rates of rapid repeat pregnancy, especially among vulnerable populations such as women who use substances given the risk of prenatal substance exposure. We found that past 30-day use of any substance (not including tobacco) was over 50%and rates of any contraceptive use were over 65% at all points of  3, 12, and 24 months follow-up. Innovative efforts are needed to promote effective contraceptive use among postpartum women who use substances.
